Auction Highlights
Hendra Gunawan – Fabric Seller
Indonesian master Hendra Gunawan (1918–1983) was renowned for his vivid use of color and his deeply human portrayals of daily life. Often referred to as the “people’s painter,” Hendra brought scenes of markets, women, and working-class life to the forefront of Indonesian modern art.

Hendra Gunawan
Fabric Seller (Penjual Kain)
Oil on canvas: 145 x 68 cm
Signed, lower right: Hendra
In Fabric Seller, two women engage in quiet conversation—one holds a baby, while the other elegantly presents a piece of patterned cloth. The fabrics are rich with detail, and one woman’s green-hued skin blends seamlessly into the textiles. The effect is striking, as if human presence and cultural tradition are woven together. The painting radiates warmth and transforms an ordinary interaction into something poetic and timeless.
Affandi – Huts in India
In 1949, Affandi (1907–1990) was awarded a cultural grant from the Indian government, which allowed him to live and work in India for two years. This period marked a turning point in his artistic journey, as he began to explore expressionism more deeply.

Affandi
Huts in India (1951)
Oil on canvas: 75 x 87 cm
Signed on the reverse
Painted in 1951, Huts in India captures a rural village with thatched roofs, a winding path, and a lone figure under a sky filled with restless clouds. Affandi applied paint directly from the tube, building dramatic textures and movement on the canvas. The earthy palette adds to the raw, immersive atmosphere. More than a scene, this work reveals an emotional response to place, memory, and lived experience.
Edhi Sunarso – Adorning Herself
Sculptor Edhi Sunarso (1932–2016) is widely recognized for his monumental public works in Jakarta, such as Selamat Datang, Liberation of West Irian, and Dirgantara. Yet his smaller sculptures reveal a more intimate and introspective side of his artistry.

Edhi Sunarso
Adorning Herself (Bersolek) (1959)
Bronze: 165 x 60 x 46 cm
Signed, lower area: EDH S
In Adorning Herself (Bersolek), a bronze female figure is caught in a moment of graceful ritual. Her arms are raised, one leg slightly bent, suggesting a quiet and personal act of self-care. The composition is elegant and fluid, capturing beauty not through extravagance but through serenity and self-awareness. This sculpture is a tribute to femininity expressed with quiet strength.
Ries Mulder – Boats
Dutch artist and educator Ries Mulder (1909–1973) was instrumental in the development of modern art in Indonesia. His teachings at what would become the Bandung Institute of Technology introduced modernist principles to a generation of influential Indonesian artists. Some of his famous students are Ahmad Sadali, Mochtar Apin, and A.D. Pirous.

Ries Mulder
Boats (1959)
Oil on board: 90 x 160 cm
Signed and dated, lower left: Ries'59
Boats showcases Mulder’s signature Cubist style. The composition is built from abstracted fields of green, brown, and blue that form hills, sea, and sky. Boats drift across the water while stylized trees rise from the land, creating a dreamlike scene that feels both structured and serene. Mulder’s work is a meditation on landscape and memory, seen through a modern lens. Ries Mulder's works are rare nowadays, so don't miss the opportunity.
Mulder’s works have become increasingly rare, making this an exceptional opportunity to acquire a piece by one of the foundational voices in Indonesia’s artistic evolution.
